Summer Internship report

The Department of Architecture Professionals Advisory Council sponsors the Summer Internship program for 3+year M Arch students, guaranteeing all 3+year M Arch students a paid internship in a local firm the summer after completion of the first year in the program.  Here, 3+ year student Madeleine Black shares an overview of her internship experience over summer 2015.  We are grateful to our PAC for continuing to support this incredible opportunity for our students, as it has become an invaluable element of their educational experience.

This summer I had the pleasure of interning at Weinstein A+U. The office has just moved to their new location at the historic Union Stables building just north of Pike Place Market, for which Weinstein A+U designed the shell and core, as well as a few of the interior spaces including their own. Their office is a great place to work, with an open working environment that encourages collaboration while also allowing for focused individual workspaces. The design staff at Weinstein A+U are really friendly and always willing to discuss their designs and process. I was lucky enough to be involved in more than a dozen projects over the summer. I worked on construction document edits for Fire Station 22, renderings for Seattle Town Hall, models and redlines for mixed-use multi-family housing designs, and many other projects. I also visited sites in a variety of design stages, including Skyway Library, also a UW studio site visit during second quarter when studying libraries. Seeing this project move through the design process to near completion was a great opportunity for me.  Working at Weinstein A+U, I immediately felt a part of the team and was sad to leave at the end of the summer.
