PARK(ing) DAY is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers, and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. The mission includes innovation, urban transformation, acting as a change agent, urban play, public goodwill, creative adaptation, community renewal, modified expectations, absurdity, and beautification. This year the Seattle Design Festival is calling for entries to transform a block of street parking on Occidental Avenue South into 8 parklets. Each parklet will transform roughly 2 parking spaces forthree days during Parking Day and throughout the weekend.
Winning entries will be showcased at the Seattle Design Festival and posted on the Festival website.
Selection criteria (weighed equally) are as follows:
• Overall concept design supports Design in Health (10)
• Tectonic qualities/ Buildability (10)
• Urban and contextual qualities/Relationship with context (10)
INSTALLATION DETAILS & DESIGN CONSTRAINTS
A. Construction, staffing, and funding of the installation are the responsibility of the entrant
B. Must adhere to the dimensional criteria and restrictions set forth by SDOT as shown on page online casino 4 of this document
C. Signage related to brand, logo, or promotional imagery is limited to (2) 11×17 posters per parkingday.org license agreement
D. Must be able to withstand weather/human interaction on site for approx 3 days

Please submit entry packages to: Occidental8@gmail.com by midnight on August 16, 2013. Jpegs of the site images in this package can be accessed via dropbox. Winning selections will be announced August 23, 2013. Installation is slated for Friday, September 20th at 9am and all materials must be removed from the site by 10 pm September 22nd.
