Architecture Hall, Rm 147
University of Washington

Co-sponsored by the UW Japan Studies Program and the College of Built Environments

Hiroto Kobayashi & Naomi Maki | Global Local Practice: Pre-Post 3.11

Hiroto Kobayashi and Naomi Maki, founding principals of Kobayashi Maki Design Workshop (KMDW) in Japan, are internationally known architects. Together they will share their expertise and experiences in partnering with communities to rebuild after the March 11, 2011 tsunami devistated people and places in the Miyagi prefecture on Japan’s eastern coast. Examples will include KMDW’s award-winning Maeami-Hama project currently in progress with Architects for Humanity, where a small village centered on aquaculture faces the challenge of either relocating, or rebuilding after 90% of their village structures were wiped out.
