SEF Annual Forum
Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington Annual Forum:
Creating the Language of Architecture: The Role of the Structural Engineer
Presented by William F. Baker, P.E., S.E., Partner-in-Charge of Structural Engineering at Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill
Architecture tells the story of a time and place, but the language used to express it is often provided by the structural engineer. With recent innovations, is the language becoming richer or less comprehendible? Bill Baker proposes casino that each engineer should have a design philosophy, and engineers should be active participants in the design conversation. Baker outlines the need for critical dialogue about complexity in structure and advocates the importance of rational thinking and careful refinement of a clear structural idea.
An optional industry-wide networking reception will be held before the forum.
