Favorite Things (Indian Style…)

Street dogs with puppies and $2 lunches
All sorts of fried foods (we eat them in bunches)
Running around wearing engagement rings
These are a few of our favorite things

Host families, architecture, and le Corbusier
Long rickshaw rides in the sunshine – oh YAY!
Drivers go so fast you’d swear they have wings
These are a few of our favorite things

Rock Garden sculptures and rooftops for miles
Greetings that come ready with hot tea and smiles
Two weeks of wet laundry hung up on strings
These are a few of our favorite things

When the dogs bark
When the taxi breaks down
When our stomachs feel bad
We simply remember we’re in INDIA
And then we don’t feel so bad!

Listening to music on cots under stars
Imagining an India without any cars
Eating great meals and feeling like kings
These are a few of our favorite things

Sleeping out in the desert of Gujarat
Comparing the shawls that everyone bought
Admiring buffalo and hearing birds sing
These are a few of our favorite things

Exploring the salt flats and watching the sunset
20 piling in a goods truck? -You bet!
Wondering what the next day will bring
These are a few of our favorite things

When we get sick
When the train stops
When without coffee we’re sad
We simply remember it’s winter back there
And then we don’t feel so bad!

Freshly squeezed juice from the neighborhood walla
Happy the rupee is falling to the dolla’
Learning the last names (There’re so many Singhs!)
These are a few of our favorite things

Studying urbanism and gold geometries
Wearing lots of layers so we do not all freeze
Heartily enjoying our Indian fling
These are a few of our favorite things

Making our plans to travel on weekends
Tuk tuks, the head bobble and making new friends
Wintering in India until it is Spring
These are a few of our favorite things

When it’s midreview
When we have no supplies
When we’re working like mad
We simply remember you’re doing it too
And then we don’t feel so bad!
