BEAUX ARTS BALL is BACK
Back in the mid 1990′s, the Beaux Arts Ball was still a strong tradition at the Department of Architecture, but in years afterwards it faded away, supplanted in part by new a tradition of Friday “Happy Hours.” But this year various student groups led by the AIAS revived the tradition, and managed to pull off a fine high-energy party on Saturday night May 28.
The theme was French Creepy Carnival. Costumes were much better than at last Halloween’s Happy Hour. One of the best and most effective guises at the Beaux Arts Ball was also the simplest: architecture senior Scott Viloria came as Professor Frank Ching!
The crowd was smaller than at a Happy Hour event, but the party was way more energetic with hours of sustained dancing led by a professional DJ. Most of the graduating senior class there, but there were relatively few graduate students or faculty in attendance. Maybe more will show next year?
